Bobby Model recovering from serious injury

Bobby Model, the Cody, Wy. photographer who first attended Photography at the Summit as a student and later, as a faculty member, remains in critical but stable condition in New York’s Mt. Sinai Hospital. Bobby was injured when a large stone was thrown through the windshield of the car in which he was riding in South Africa earlier in the summer. He is slowly coming out of a coma and faces a long recouperation. His pictures are featured in the current issue of National Geographic Adventure magazine and the New York Times ran a portfolio and story about his injuries in July. Model, 34, was riding in a car driven by his sister, Faith, when the rock was thrown through the windshield. The circumstances are still being investigated. In addition to being a fine photographer, he is an accomplished rock climber — one of the world’s best, who first came onto the scene with an accent of the east face of the Trango Tower in the Himalayas as part of a team that placed their story and pictures with the National Geographic magazine. Early in his career, he interned at Rich Clarkson and Associates.
