The spring 2008 Photography at the Summit will take on an additional element and flavor by using Photography as a Catalyst for Conservation. Â The International League of Conservation Photographers will be part of the event this year and will be holding their spring business meeting the day before the Summit opens. Â Many of their members will be part of the Summit including Michael (Nick) Nichols, Jack Dykinga, famed underwater photographer David Doubilet, Summit regulars Tom Mangelsen and James Balog. Â In addition to those photographers, we add top magazine editors Chris Johns (editor in chief of National Geographic), David Schonauer (editor in chief of American Photo), Kathy Moran (National Geographic) and the creator of the much-acclaimed and internet showcase for picture stories, Brian Storm of MediaStorm.
The workshop features will include “Workshops Within the Workshop” to include everything from high quality digital printing to flash lighting using the new Nikon SB800s, making digital workflow work, and basic digital photography using the new Nikon D3s and D300s. Â Early mornings include field trips into the foothills of the Grand Tetons to witness and photography wildlife as springtime comes to Jackson Hole.
The evening lecture programs will include speakers showing how great photographs are a most effective tool for making conservation awareness happen worldwide — this as so eloquently written in James Balog’s essay in American Photo magazine this past year.
All the elements of previous Summit Workshops will still be in place, but added will be the story of great photography in the name of conserving the world’s nature and natural resources.
